Oxjam Music Festival comes to Balham this weekend, with musicians showcasing their talent in aid of charity.
‘The Oxjam Takeover’ involves taking over a town or city for the night to unmask fresh faces of music whilst raising money to help Oxfam fight poverty and suffering in some of the most vulnerable communities around the world.
The festival includes a line-up of over 25 acts performing 12 hours of back-to-back music at five of Balham’s most popular venues, including The Bedford, Lost and Found, The 3 Monkeys, Alter Ega and Balham Baptist Church.
Some of the acts include Stella and the Shakes, Raheem Bakaré, Saturday Sun, Abby Bowden and Sophia Amato, and will end with a DJ set at The Bedford to close the festival.
“Music is something that lifts people and if we can lift one person through Oxfam, they will lift others,” said a spokesperson from Oxjam Balham.
“With your help, one good thing leads to another.”
A warm-up party, which is free to attend, is taking place tonight at the Balham Bowls Club, with musical bingo kicking off at 7pm.
Live music will start from 8.30pm with performances from Lawrence Taylor and Nevamis, and ending with sets from Disco Fudge’s DJs, Gameboy Raver and Hutchio.
Oxjam Balham, which is run by a large team of volunteers, has already raised almost £2,000 towards their target of £5,000.
