Surbiton women scoop Investec Premier Division top spot after Leicester victory

Surbiton’s women recorded their first ever victory over Leicester this weekend to move to the top of the Investec Premier Division.

Goals from Sarah Page, Chloe Palmer and Giselle Ansley secured the win as the ladies continued their excellent early season form.

Surbiton’s impressive defensive record has enabled them to rack up a +12 goal difference with goalkeeper Vicky Hewett having conceded just one goal in four matches.

There was not such good news for the men as their three game winning streak was severed at the hands of East Grinstead.

They were humbled 4-0 in a top of the table clash which saw their opponents replace them at the top of the NOW: Pensions Premier Division.

The men were left to rue missed opportunities as they failed to convert any their five penalty corners in the match.

The home side had no such problems as international Ashley Jackson netted a hat-trick to secure the victory.

The silver lining came when title rivals Beeston and Hampstead & Westminster played out a 1-1 draw meaning Surbiton slipped just one place in the table.

The men entertain Hampstead and Westminster in their next fixture while the ladies face a tough away trip to second place Clifton.
