Fulham ready to kick-start league campaign against Birmingham City, insists Burn

Fulham defender Dan Burn is confident Tuesday’s League Cup victory will act as the catalyst to boost the club’s league form ahead of this weekend’s trip to Birmingham City.

The Cottagers, who sacked manager Felix Magath last week, are bottom of the Championship with just one point from their opening eight fixtures.

Birmingham, in 20th place, have also endured a difficult start to the season, but will look to build on last week’s impressive 2-2 draw away to title-favourites Norwich City.

Fulham were led by fan’s favourite Kit Symons once again in midweek for the win over Doncaster Rovers, and Burn, who captained and scored his first goal for the club in that game, is confident the team will collect its first league win on Saturday.

“Birmingham are going to be under pressure to beat us, and I really think we can get the win,” he said.

“We’ve got Bryan Ruiz,a World Cup player, Ross McCormack – who bags goals – and if we can shut up shop at the back, there’s no doubt we can score goals for fun.”

Burn, 22, spent the first half of last season on loan at St Andrew’s, and the towering centre-half is looking forward to seeing a few familiar faces.

He added: “I still speak to a lot of the boys there, so it will be nice to go back.

“I had a good relationship with the fans, so hopefully I’ll get a good reception, but you never know at St Andrew’s.”

Fulham will once again be relying on £11m summer signing McCormack to prove his worth, while Birmingham are still without long-term absentees Gavin Gunning, Neal Eardley and Matt Green.
