Oscar had a hand in two goals as Chelsea made relatively easy work of Bolton Wanderers to secure their place in the last 16 of the Capital One Cup – where they will face League Two Shrewsbury.
Oscar’s corner was bundled in by debutant Kurt Zouma for the opener, before the Brazilian himself scored a right-footed effort from outside the box in the second half.
Bolton captain Matt Mills had earlier headed in a shock equaliser 30 minutes into a first half that had been completely dominated by Chelsea.
Chelsea assistant manager Steve Holland said: “In the second half, we just needed individual quality to make the difference and Oscar provided that.”
Jose Mourinho took the option to rest a number of players, making nine changes to the side who drew with Manchester City.
“Players getting important minutes, no extra and no injuries is a good situation,” said Holland.
Bolton were also changed with manager Dougie Freedman making five changes to the side who lost 1-0 to Wolves.
Chelsea dominated the first half and nearly opened the scoring through an Andre Schurrle free kick that Andy Lonergan brilliantly tipped on to the crossbar.
Schurrle looked lively throughout and the German forward will be disappointed to have not got on the scoresheet.
Zouma poked the ball in after 25 minutes following an Oscar corner before Mills headed in the equaliser from a Liam Feeney free-kick.
Oscar scored the winner early in the second half and Chelsea dominated proceedings meaning they could see out the rest of the game with minimal fuss.
Chelsea had more than 60% possession and will be disappointed they didn’t increase their lead as Bolton had a few half chances to upset them in the closing stages.
Chelsea face Aston Villa on Saturday before travelling to Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday in the Champions League.
