Bradley ‘Super’ Skeete, born in Tooting and fighting out of Penge, co-headlined the Queensberry Promotions event, facing Brazil’s Leandro Mendes Pinto in a scheduled 10-rounder last night.
Making his eleventh appearance at the iconic East End venue, Skeete, 26, made it 18 wins in as many bouts with the seventh knockout of his career.
He dominated the first round with his jab, and landed his right hand at will, dropping Pinto towards the end of the round with a heavy right shot.
The Brazilian did not see too much of the second round with referee Terry O’Connor calling an end to proceedings after just 40 seconds with Pinto unable to continue after shipping a short right hand followed by a left-hook.
Speaking after the fight, Bradley said: “I just do my training and let the punches do the talking.”
Skeete, who has held Southern Area, English and WBA Inter-Continental titles, is now setting his sights on the British title after being installed as mandatory challenger to Frankie Gavin.
He said: “I’m mandatory now so it is what it is. I’m not backing away from my mandatory position, I’ve got a very good team around me, my coach Al Smith, Andy Ayling my manager, and obviously my promoter Frank Warren so we’ll all sit down and see what’s going to happen now.”
Regarding Gavin’s loss in his last fight to Leonard Bundu, Skeete said: “I don’t go to bed thinking about Frankie Gavin, my career is all about me.
“The Bundu loss threw a spanner in the works and everyone did think in an ideal world he [Gavin] would win the European and vacate the British and then move on and I’d fill the void.
“We’ll sit down with the team and then if we can get it done, we can get it done.”
Skeete’s manager is hoping to secure a title shot this November.
He said: “I want to do it on the 29th November. Frankie’s in, he’ll be fighting on that date, and I want Bradley to go for it.”
‘Super’ Skeete will be hoping that come November 29 he will be crowned British champion at ExCel London.
