Streatham Redskins captain Joe Johnston warned against complacency ahead of this weekend’s double-header against Invicta Dynamos and Bracknell Hornets.
The Redskins suffered a shock 3-2 opening-day loss last week to Milton Keynes Thunder, and travel to Kent on Saturday, to take on arch-rivals Invicta in the Southern Cup, looking to repeat the heroics of last season’s run to the final.
The South Londoners then host Bracknell on Sunday in a fixture that was played out in front of over 1000 people when the new rink in Brixton opened last season.
A 3-3 tie last time round was a close affair and with both sides strengthening their roster, it should be a competitive game between last year’s fifth and seventh place finishers.
Johnston, 34, concedes Streatham overlooked the Thunder last week, having beaten them on six consecutive occasions last year.
“We underestimated Milton Keynes last week, we beat them a lot last year, and it came as a shock,” he said.
“We will make sure we are better prepared this week. The Invicta game will be tough, it’s a difficult place to go to.”
The Redskins Captain admits the team is still looking for its best line-up, with new signings Brandon Miles and Adam Wood gelling into the squad, but is confident they will bounce back.
He added: “We changed line combinations a lot last week, and we still don’t know the best combinations.
“But, looking at the game, we did everything but score, I hit the post and crossbar. There is not too much to worry about, we are moving forward and will improve.”
