Surbiton Hockey Club has bolstered their ladies’ squad with New Zealand international Julia King, as the first team look to defend their league and cup titles.
The reigning Women’s Premier Division champions have signed the experienced Kiwi international from Auckland.
Despite being just 21, King has won 63 caps for her country and scored eight goals.
Surbiton’s new recruit, who can play either in midfield or as a striker, is fresh from helping former club Auckland lift the Ford National League title in New Zealand.
“I am very excited to play for Surbiton,” King told the club’s website.
“I’m looking forward to helping them defend both their league and cup titles.”
Ladies’ coach Brett Garrard is pleased with the latest addition to his squad: “We are delighted to have secured Julia’s services.
“As an experienced international she will add further depth and quality to our squad as we look to challenge on three fronts this season.”
The club also announced their schedule for EuroHockey Club Champions Cup this week.
The eight team competition, which takes place in April next year, will be Garrard’s team first foray into Europe.
The ladies will open up against Dutch side Stichtse before taking on sides from Germany, Spain and Russia.
In the domestic league the women travel to the University of Birmingham tomorrow, looking to bounce back from an opening day draw with Reading.
Their male counterparts are away at Southgate on Sunday looking to make it two wins from two games so far this campaign.
