Beleaguered Fulham boss Felix Magath insists he remains the right man for the job, despite his side’s 5-3 defeat to Nottingham Forest last night.
A Britt Assombalonga hat-trick helped condemn the Cottagers to a sixth Championship defeat in just seven games, keeping them firmly rooted to the foot of the table.
Forest’s record signing struck twice early on, before the away side turned the match on its head thanks to a Hugo Rodallega goal, either side of a Ross McCormack brace.
However, they could not hold onto their advantage as Forest scored three times late on through Assombalonga, Michail Antonio and Jamie Paterson.
“I am completely confident in my job,” Magath said afterwards.
“I understand the fans’ frustrations. I’m very sad we are bottom with one point. It is terrible for the players, myself and the supporters.”
Assombalonga continued his prolific start to the season as he nodded home Henri Lansbury’s set piece in the ninth minute.
The striker doubled his side’s tally soon after from the penalty spot following a foul by Shaun Hutchinson.
McCormack reduced the deficit in the 31st minute with a fine free kick before Rodallega equalised shortly after half time.
Fulham completed the turnaround in the 65th minute through McCormack’s deflected effort.
Antonio’s cool finish in the 77th minute restored parity between the sides, before Assombalonga completed his hat-trick two minutes later.
Substitute Paterson made sure of the points for the home side in the 89th minute.
Despite defeat, Magath insisted there were positives for his side.
“We missed a chance to make it 4-2 and unfortunately we made a mistake to let them back in,” he said.
“I thought they got a lucky win.
“It was very good for the team to fight back from that and when we got in front, I thought we were the better team.”
