A Croydon man has been arrested for posting anti-Semitic tweets following Tottenham Hostpur’s Premier League match with West Ham.
The 24-year-old was arrested on Thursday along with a 22-year-old from Wiltshire on suspicion of inciting racial hatred, after tweeting comments about Hitler and gas chambers.
The comments were made after West Ham’s 3-0 away win at Tottenham Hotspur on October 6.
Police also arrested a 48-year-old man in Canning Town for inciting racial hatred on December 5 as part of the same investigation – all three men have been bailed until January.
And in November, a 55-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, was arrested and cautioned for malicious communications after posting anti-Semitic tweets before the same fixture.
Fans were warned before the game not to use the word ‘yid’, with police saying those that did would be committing a crime.
Tottenham have a traditionally large Jewish following and some of their fans use the term themselves, though the club has also been targeted with abuse from opposition fans.
