Wimbledon Chase Primary School won the national ‘Top of the Plots’ competition
Green-fingered pupils at a Wimbledon primary school are celebrating after winning a gardening competition.
Wimbledon Chase Primary School won the Best Olympic Display in 2012 and have now been crowned winners in the Top of the Plots gardening competition.
The primary school entered a Daily Mirror competition that consist of several categories such as best front garden, best planted container and best school garden.
The hard working little gardeners and the volunteer school gardener, Tony Cullen, are pleased to have won the Best School garden and were the overall winners of the entire competition.
“The children were very excited and so were the parents – I bet there were several additional copies of the Mirror purchased that Saturday,” said Mr Cullen.
“The following after school gardening club attracted more than 50 children. The average has been 20,” said Mr Cullen.
The school were awarded a £500 B&Q voucher which they are likely to invest in a wooden rose arch.
“We were given some lovely roses by a parent, so a structure to grow a climbing rose would be great,” added Mr Cullen.
