Harlequins

Ahead of his side’s LV=Cup game against Exeter Chiefs on Saturday, Harlequins hooker Dave Ward says he was never under any illusions about how difficult it would be to make it into the first team.

Ward said: “When you look at the quality of the squad and the fact Quins had only just won the Premiership when I joined, I was always going to have to wait my time,” he said.

London Irish

Three new players, all on short-term loan deals, will play for London Irish in their LV=Cup game against Newcastle on Saturday.

“The LV= Cup presents us with an opportunity to mix the squad up,” said London Irish director of rugby Brian Smith. “We have players injured or missing through international duties in both the second row and back row. Ben Toolis will plug a gap in the second row and Danny and Ben will get their chance in the back row.”

Rosslyn Park

Rosslyn Park Injury Trust Fund, set up by Rosslyn Park RFC in 1981, last Saturday presented George Claxton, who suffered paralysis from the neck down while playing Rugby for Blackburn RFC, with a £6,000 wheelchair to aid in his bid to play Wheelchair Rugby at the Paralympics.

George said: “Now I am looking forward to playing again and, thanks to the kindness of the Rosslyn Park Injury Trust Fund, having my own special chair to play in will be a great help, so I am very keen to get back into action.”
