A prostitute who battered her flatmate to death with a hammer went on a £5,500 shopping spree using her victim’s credit cards, a court heard today.
Bank transactions and CCTV footage show that Edyta Zawadzka, 30, who denies murdering Julia Anders in November last year, drove to shopping centres in the victim’s car and bought clothing, shoes, nappies and handbags.
Between the time the victim was last seen alive and when her body was discovered, the defendant had spent a total of £5,599, the prosecution claims.
In one trip to sex retailer Ann Summers, the defendant purchased lingerie, suspenders and a willy lolly with Ms Anders’ credit card, the court heard.
The prosecution claims that Zawadzka repeatedly hit the mother-of-three over the head with a hammer in the flat they shared in The Towers, Lower Mortlake Road, between November 16 and 30 last year.
Police found Ms Anders’ body on November 30, in the first floor flat in which the two women worked as prostitutes, after her sister had reported her missing.
The court heard the defendant sent text messages using the victim’s SIM card to her relatives, including her daughter, assuring them she was okay.
The defendant, a mother-of-one, claims that it was her brother, Pawel Zawadzka, who killed Ms Anders.
