The pop icon released details of his Hit and Run tour from Lianne La Havas’ sofa.
Nothing beats a cup of tea – even if you’re a global superstar.
So proved pop legend Prince on Tuesday, as he announced details of his next UK tour with a cup of Britain’s best in hand.
The diminutive Purple Rain performer chose the home of former Norbury Manor pupil Lianne La Havas, a rising star herself, as his venue for a very different press conference.
Prince revealed his Hit and Run tour will last throughout February, with unscheduled gigs at ‘iconic’ venues across London announced hours in advance.
He kicked off with an acoustic jam on La Havas’ sofa, joined by all-female trio 3RDEYEGIRL.
Prince’s admiration for his host and fellow singer-songwriter was clear. “I’m just hooking up with like minds,” he said.
The 55-year-old met La Havas during her 2013 American tour and invited her to spend time in his Minneapolis studio.
“Prince and Lianne are, I guess, friends,” said Duncan Ellis, the London singer’s manager. “This was something Prince wanted to do – a bit more honest, fun.”
Ellis said of the living room gig itself: “It was just surreal. Nothing like this has ever happened before!”
