The Wandsworth branch were delighted with the community turn-out at their event.
A carnival atmosphere descended on the car-park of Sainsbury’s Nine Elms Temp Store last week, as staff members danced and partied to raise money for Sports Relief 2014.
A grand total of £5,900 was raised by staff at the branch, whilst over £6 million was raised nationwide by staff members at other Sainsbury’s branches.
Staff members spoke proudly about their achievement this week, recalling the more comical aspects of the event.
Mohamed Abdul, P.R. ambassador for this Sainsbury’s branch, was amused by some of the antics of his colleagues.
“The store manager Andy Robins was dancing in a Batman costume. Someone else wore a frog outfit,’ he said.
Michelle Johnson, leader of Great Place to Work, wore a red wig and joined others in a sponsored run through Queen’s End Park.
“It was a really good community event in which each Sainsbury’s store was told what they could co,” said Mrs Johnson.
Mrs Johnson’s daughter, Charlotte, 10, was the youngest person involved in the events, being involved in the face-painting.
Sainsbury’s staff also cycled every day in the foyer area to reach a five miles target and took part in a flash-mob performance of Black Lace’s 70s dance number Superman.
Other young people from Wandsworth were involved through the Sea Cadets, one of whom had previously worked at the same Sainsbury’s branch.
Abdul has been involved with several similar past fundraising campaigns, having worked at the Wandsworth branch for the past two years. Other campaigns included Comic Relief and Red Nose Day.
Sainsbury’s Andy Robins Store Manager added: “I’d like to thank all our customers who made a donation to Sport Relief, whether through buying this year’s merchandise or making a donation to one of our Sport Relief fundraising events in-store.”
