The Battersea Christmas Carol Concert, proudly supported by Aspire Estate Agents, was held for the first time last week.
The concert, on December 11, was attended by dog-loving celebrity guests, including Made In Chelsea’s Cheska Hull, actress Caroline Quentin, designer Julien Macdonald and his Strictly dance partner Janette Manrara, and actor Anthony Head.
Battersea’s special Dog Guard of Honour greeted guests as they arrived and the Home’s pawsome rescue dogs stayed throughout the concert to enjoy festive carols lead by the Collegium Musicum of London Chamber Choir.
Held in the winter wonderland setting of St Luke’s Church in Sydney Street, the concert also featured a special Christmas reading of Twas The Night Before Christmas by actress Caroline Quentin, adapted especially for the event with a doggie twist.
Guests could remember a beloved pet by writing their name on a bauble which will be hung on the Home’s Christmas tree until the New Year, and all were treated to mince pies and mulled wine to finish off the festivities.
All funds raised from the event will go towards caring for the centre’s lost and abandoned animals at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.
Battersea cares for an average of 400 dogs and 190 cats across its three centres at any one time.
Actress Caroline Quentin, famous for TV roles in Men Behaving Badly and Jonathan Creek, said the concert got her into the Christmas spirit.
“Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s first carol concert was the perfect opportunity to wrap up warm – all while in the company of the Home’s gorgeous four legged friends!
“It breaks my heart to think of all the Battersea dogs that will be without a family this Christmas and it was a privilege to be part of such a special night honouring the Home’s animals.”
Liz Tait, Director of Fundraising for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, said they were extremely pleased with the success of the evening.
“On Christmas day Battersea expects to care for 450 homeless dogs and 190 homeless cats. We’re delighted to have raised £13,523 at the concert, which will help to give our animals a festive season filled with love this year,” she said.
