The Northern Line is also extending to the area.
The regeneration of Battersea is continuing at a frenetic pace as Gordon Ramsay today announced that he will be opening a new restaurant in the area.
London House, featuring modern European cuisine, will open in Battersea Square next February on the site of the old Bennett Oyster Bar which becomes Ramsay’s 26th restaurant worldwide.
With the redevelopment of the former power station, extension of the Northern Line and building of a new American embassy in Nine Elms, the face of Battersea is changing.
“I think people are quite excited about it. Driving along Nine Elms Lane hasn’t been the most exciting over the past 30 years,” said Liz Walton, joint chairman of the planning committee for the Battersea Society.
“We have been involved right from the very beginning in the redevelopment, and some of the original suggestions for the power station were ghastly.”

The agreed project will create 3,444 new homes of which only 517 will fall inside the ‘affordable properties’ bracket.
“What we are anxious to ensure is that, whatever goes ahead, is that the impact on those residents already living there is as small as possible,” Ms Walton added.
“We want to ensure that developers work in a sensible way and recognise that people have to pass it every day on their way to work and school.”
Meanwhile the planned extension of the Northern Line will connect Battersea and Nine Elms to Kennington on the Waterloo branch, with construction scheduled to begin in 2015.
The project, planned for completion by 2020, will be funded by a £1bn grant from the government as confirmed by Chancellor George Osborne in his Autumn Statement last week.
