Harry, Zayn, Niall, Liam and Louis need new owners.
Harry, Zayn, Liam, Louis and Niall have captured hearts and headlines across the country – and would have been worshipped in Ancient Egypt.
Five black kittens have been cat-apulted to fame after being named after boyband One Direction when they were abandoned at Merton’s Blue Cross animal shelter.
The healthy playful kittens are thought to be around seven weeks old.
“Hopefully we will find homes for them soon – I don’t think we’ll have too much of a problem as they are kittens – it’s harder to find homes for older cats,” said Emmeline Macedo, Blue Cross Deputy Nurse Manager.
Ms Macedo said staff at the shelter are fans of the band.
“As soon as we saw the five of them, with their scruffy hair and good looks, it was hard not to think of 1D – they’ve certainly got the X Factor.”
She added that it’s not uncommon for families of cats to be left and sometimes people just leave them in reception without asking.
A mum and her two kittens were left there a few months ago.
Animals left at the shelter often have out of date microchips or do not have them at all.
“We really urge people to neuter their pets to prevent unwanted litters being left to suffer,” she added.
“Although black cats often take longer to re-home because they’re not as popular, with Halloween coming up we really hope it won’t take long to find loving homes for these deserving kittens.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Harry has proved the most popular of the five, and has already found a home.
Natasha Boydell, editor at Blue Cross, said: “We definitely hope the One Direction connection will help them find homes.”
The four remaining kittens have been transferred to the Felixstowe re-homing centre.
