Residents have until November 18 to register.
Lambeth residents are being given the opportunity to get a better deal on their utilities bills thanks to the Big London Energy Switch.
They will be able to register for free until November 18 in order to make a saving on their energy bills.
On November 19 the energy suppliers will bid against each other in a reverse auction to see who will offer the best tariff.
“I think it is a really good opportunity for residents to get better prices given how much they spend on gas and electricity,” said Imogen Walker, Lambeth Councillor for Environment and Sustainability.
The council is backing the new switching scheme along with 22 other London Boroughs, after the first switch back in April. Overall 26,436 households have registered on to the scheme.
In the previous switch, the average saving for all those who registered achieved on annual energy bills was £122.
For the scheme in April, suppliers had to provide ‘cash-backs’ or ‘bill credits’ to their off-the-shelf tariffs for the auction.
In November, the energy company aims to create special offers which will benefit registrants as there will be greater competition of tariffs between suppliers.
Lambeth council is communicating widely about the new switching scheme via its twitter campaign and leaflets available in libraries, school and GP practices to encourage residents to sign up.
“It is important that people who struggle with their bills have access to better deals. Plus, they don’t have to commit. But, if they want to sign up, the scheme can save them a lot of money,” she added.
Lambeth residents can register for free on www.biglondonenergyswitch.org.uk or contact the council call centre on 020 7926 1000 to fill in your details and energy bill data by the 18th of November.
