Clapham Pottery has begun procedures to buy back The Old Chapel from Lambeth Council to continue their popular pottery courses.

So far, over £84,000 has been raised thanks to friends of Clapham Pottery and the local community, without which the enterprise that offers a creative outlet would have been forced to shut down.

The non-profit community pottery runs courses for all ages and abilities throughout the year with over 200 students each week. Clapham Pottery offers an inclusive learning environment for students to explore a range of ceramic processes including hand building, sculpture, throwing on the wheel, glazing and firing.

Naine Woodrow, Co-ordinator of Clapham Pottery, has witnessed people of all abilities create stunning pieces of artwork.

“Clapham Pottery is a place where people can realise their own creative potential and are often very surprised at their own creativity,” she said.

However the pottery still needs to raise £175,000 to get full ownership of the building. When that happens, they can continue to provide an inclusive and open learning environment for people to learn and create with clay.
