The award-winning troupe are in the area until Sunday.
The circus tumbled into Raynes Park this week and will continue to provide shows up until Sunday evening on Prince George’s Playing Field, Bushy Road.
Featuring artists from all over the world, Santus Circus’ ‘Trapeze’ is an eclectic mix of acrobatics, comedy and extreme death defying aerial feats.
The prize-winning circus is owned by French duo Ernest and Roger Santus, whose family have been in the business for eight generations. Taking on a wide variety of skills and presentations, the troupe provides audiences in south-east England with a traditional circus experience.
Performer Craig Attmere, 24, of Ipswich, believes this is where their strength lies.
He said: “A lot of shows don’t have traditional acts anymore. We have a traditional ringmaster, clowns and incredible artists.
“The shows are perfect for families as parents can enjoy them as much as children.”
Craig, who performs mind-boggling rope stunts as Spiderman, had been involved in circus performing for five years before joining Santus in 2011. He accompanies a stellar troupe including a four-strong team of Columbian trapezists who have previously worked with Cirque Du Soleil.
Their high-wire and trapeze performance, which features late in the show, is an astonishing display of skill and physicality and is certainly worth the wait. Other acts of note include Spiderman’s rope performance, a talented Czech juggling show and a highly entertaining and impressive trampoline display.
The show has been running in Raynes Park since last Friday and will head for Edmondsey, north London after Sunday’s final show. Entry ranges from £9 to £19 and details can be viewed at www.santuscircus.co.uk/
