The 2013 Alzheimer’s London Memory Walk takes place at Battersea Park this weekend.
Memory Walk is a series of events raising money to provide vital support to people living with dementia and help the ongoing research to find a cure for the future.
The Alzheimer’s Society, in partnership with Bupa Care Homes, holds a number of walks around England, Wales and Northern Ireland every September to increase awareness of the disease.
They aim to unite the community in a movement to reclaim the future for the millions affected by Alzheimer’s through raising critical resources to support the local individuals and families who face this disease, as well as supporting research funds to find a cure.
The organisation raised over £1.4million for the first time in 2012 and are expecting to raise even more this year.
Starting from Battersea Park bandstand, the walk will take participants from the park to pass through many famous London landmarks.
Ricky Martin, who won the BBC series The Apprentice last year, took part in the 10k walk last week in Epping Forest.
“It was great to see how many people have turned up to show their support,” he told the East Sussex and West Essex Guardian.
“I want to do everything I can to raise awareness of the charity because I know how important it is from my own personal experience. Events like Memory Walk are a really fun way to do this.”
Online registrations for the Battersea park walk have now closed but anyone interested in taking part can register on the day to join. The event is free of charge and for every walker, Bupa Care Homes will donate £2.50 to Alzheimer’s Society.
