Many schools across the borough achieved record results.
South West London students are celebrating after picking up excellent GCSE results yesterday.
Across the country, the proportion of GCSE exam entries awarded top grades dropped, but many South West London schools improved on their previous performance.
In Lambeth, the number of students getting five or more A*-C grades including English and Maths has gone up from 62.8% in 2012 to 65.7% this year.
Councillor Rachel Heywood, cabinet member for Children and Families, said the results were well-deserved.
“I know students, teachers and parents in Lambeth have worked incredibly hard to get the best possible GCSE results. These results are just reward for their efforts,” she said.
“GCSEs are a critical step on the path towards college, university or an apprenticeship and eventually a career. On behalf of Lambeth I wish every student the best of luck today and promise we will do everything we can to help them to fulfil their potential in the future.”
Bishop Thomas Grant, in Streatham, was the best performing school in the borough and also had the highest improvement rate, with 85% of students getting five A*-C including English and Maths, up 12% on last year.
Figures also show that results have also improved across Richmond, where 68% of pupils achieved 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths, compared to 62% in 2012.
Cllr Geoffrey Samuel, Deputy Leader of the Council, congratulated all those who received their results yesterday.
“This year has seen an impressive performance from our schools,” he said.
“I am particularly please with the results of the English Baccalaureate and I am thrilled that more and more young people are choosing it as an alternative qualification.
I am confident that these results will propel us into the very top league of secondary schools.”
