Wimbledon Village residents are being urged to look out for a prolific burglar who may have been targeting houses in the area since 2006 but is still on the loose.

Officers from Merton Borough have released a clear image of a man caught burgling a house in Bathgate Road in March 2013, and they are potentially linking him to 35 burglaries in total.

The manner in which the burglaries have been committed has led police to believe that they are all linked to the same man.

Firstly, the burglar meticulously removes or destroys any security equipment at the property, where he then steals small items such as money and jewellery.

Last year, officers released a CCTV still believed to be the same man, after an attempted burglary in Wimbledon Village in January 2012.

The suspect is believed to have arrived at a dark Vauxhall Astra or Corsa which he parked nearby before using a small ladder to climb over a fence. He then cut the cables to the exterior CCTV cameras and tried the rear doors before leaving the scene.

Detective Supt Dave Palmer of Merton Police said: “This latest picture is being released as it provides a much clearer image of the suspect and we hope that someone will come forward and provide information that will allow police to prosecute this offender and prevent any further residents becoming victims to criminal activity.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Merton Police on 020 8649 3159 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
