Four outer London boroughs will share £100m for cycling.
Twickenham could become a mini Holland if their plans for a cycling revolution are approved by TfL.
Earlier this year the Mayor of London and TfL announced that £100m would be available to share between up to four outer London boroughs to help transform cycling in key centres.
Richmond has submitted an innovative bid, including improved cycling commuter routes into central London, cycle routes adjacent to railway lines, quietway routes and potentially a pedestrian/cycle bridge linking the area to Ham.
In addition, the bid outlines proposals for new partnerships which could be forged with schools, health and other organisations to ensure cycling becomes a way of life across the borough.
Lord True, Leader of Richmond Council, said that they are investigating millions of pounds to regenerate Twickenham and that cyclists will soon start to benefit from the improvements.
“The success of recent events such as the Olympics has revitalised cycling locally and we have seen a rise in the number of people taking to two wheels.
“We know that significant improvements still need to be made in the borough to create a cohesive cycle network that will enable more people to cycle. And if we are successful in this bid, I know that each element will make a big difference, as a major addition and complement to all the other cycle improvements taking place across the borough.”
