The LTA have designed mini tennis for children aged three and ten.
Wimbledon fever was was in full swing this weekend as the Lawn Tennis Association kicked off tennis sessions at Mitcham Carnival, Merton.
Temporary courts were set up at Mitcham Park to host LTA Mini Tennis, a version of the game designed for children aged between three and ten with smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls.
The promotion was the start of the local #TennisIS family time sessions’, an initiative to create awareness of the extensive opportunities for residents to play tennis at clubs across Merton.
Next weekend will also see Wimbledon Park host its annual Tennis in the Park event, with local schools attending on Friday June 28 before an open day for the public the following day.
Families will have the chance to try out free activities such as mini tennis, cardio tennis or beach tennis, and Alan Mezzetti, Tennis Development Manager for Surrey, said that it was a great opportunity for people to come and play for free.
“There are courts and clubs across Merton offering great activities for families during Wimbledon and beyond and I would really encourage people to come down to Wimbledon Park to have a look at everything we have to offer,” he said.
“There are a wide range of fun, free activities for people of all ages and abilities and I really hope we will see plenty of people come down to have a go – especially if they have never picked up a racket before.”
