Children as young as 11 have the chance to take driving lessons when a nationwide programme comes to Westfield Shepherd’s Bush next week.

Young Driver comes after ground-breaking research revealed that enabling youngsters to have driving lessons before the age of 17 can significantly cut the number of road accidents.

Statistics also reveal that 20 per cent of youngsters will have an accident within the first six months of passing their test.

Kim Stanton from Young Driver described the statistics as frightening.

“By offering lessons to youngsters aged 11-17, Young Driver is ensuring they are adequately prepared for driving on the road when they reach 17. This makes them more likely to drive safely once they have passed their test, significantly reducing their risk of having an accident.

“Simply educating children earlier can save lives on our roads.”

Young Driver found that only four percent of pupils who attended Young Driver lessons had an accident within the first six months of passing their test.

Motoring commentator, Quentin Wilson, said: “Young Driver is a road safety revolution in the making.”

Young Driver will be at Westfield Shepherd’s Bush on June 9.
