Conor O’Shea is urging British & Irish Lions coach Warren Gatland to include Danny Care in his touring party after the scrum-half’s scintillating display against Worcester.
Care bagged two tries and created a third for winger Tom Williams as Quins secured an Aviva Premiership play-off spot with a 26-42 win.
And O’Shea could not hide his admiration for the England number nine ahead of the Lions squad announcement on April 30.
“Danny is an absolute magician on the rugby field as he is a magnificent player,” he said.
“The Lions must take him – he will be brilliant on the hard pitches in Australia.”
Care faces tough competition with Gatland widely tipped to take three scrum-halves and Ben Youngs, Mike Phillips, Conor Murray and Greig Laidlaw’s names have all been mentioned.
But Care’s form for Quins this season and ability to, on occasion, single-handedly turn a game in his side’s favour could see him force his way into contention.
A concern for Gatland however will be the sight of Chris Robshaw having left the field injured against Worcester.
The England captain is widely expected to tour and is tipped as a possible captain, but O’Shea has played down the flanker’s injury.
“Chris came down on his ankle and twisted it, it is swollen but he will be fine,” he added.
“He hobbled into the shower. We’ll just let it bleed and see where it is in 24 hours.
“It’s pretty swollen and he came out of the changing rooms in a moon boot. I wouldn’t say it was precautionary as he twisted his ankle but he’ll be fine.
“Maybe not for next week, but we’ve got three weeks until the semi-final so he should be fine for that.”
