The event in Putney hopes to help less confident users.
A cross-faith event will take place in Wandsworth later this month designed to help people to get online and make the most of the internet.
Members of Putney Methodist Church have joined with the London Mosque in Southfields to help anyone, irrespective of their backgrounds, to help visitors explore the digital world.
The idea is the brainchild of David Armstrong, a member of Putney Methodist Church, who works as an IT consultant.
“This is a great way for both communities to work together to help older people in the area,” he said.
“We want to show how the internet can transform their daily lives – from shopping online to keeping in touch with family and friends.”
Young people from the Church and Mosque will be on hand to help out, including David’s 11-year-old son Cameron, who is helping to organise the event and provide his own expertise.
The ‘Spring Online’ taster event will take place at Putney Methodist Church in Gwendolen Avenue, on Saturday April 27. A range of PCs and printers will be available, but anyone who wants to learn more about their own digital device is welcome to bring it along.
Spring Online is one of the biggest digital inclusion campaigns in the UK, and is delivered by Digital Unite, one of the UK’s main providers of digital skills learning.
The Putney event is one of thousands taking place across the country to help older and less confident people get online for the first time.
