Fulham last recorded a win over Chelsea in the Premier League 12 years ago.
Martin Jol is confident and believes that Fulham can overcome rivals Chelsea in the West London derby.
Jol’s team last recorded a win over the Blues in the Premier League 12 years ago but head into the match undefeated at home since February.
And Jol believes Fulham’s previous close meetings with their rivals is evidence enough they are close to breaking their dismal record.
“In the last three league games and the Carling Cup game [against Chelsea], I think we could have beaten them three times,” Jol insisted.
“We have taken four draws from them [in the last four matches], that’s not great, but it’s not bad either, hopefully we could get a result on Wednesday to change it.”
Steve Sidwell remains sidelined, serving out the last match of his suspension, while Damien Duff has failed to recover from the knock he suffered against Aston Villa.
“Damien Duff is better than we thought,” Jol said. “He won’t be available but things look better than we thought.”
The Cottagers manager also said the club would look to strengthen their midfield in the summer as they face the prospect of losing another four influential players.
Jol admitted it concerned him that Mahamadou Diarra, Giorgos Karagounis, Chris Braid and Simon Davies contracts were all running out at the end of the season.
“In midfield, I think Steve Sidwell is probably the only one left of the players we had six or seven months ago.” Jol said,
“We have an option in Sascha Riether’s loan [to make it permanent] and we will probably take that. We have to do something.”
