Disgruntled energy customers could be better off with a London-wide collective switching scheme taking place this Monday.
This initiative registers bill payers as a group in order to get the individuals a better deal from energy companies.
The Big London Energy Switch will hold an auction with energy companies on Tuesday, with the cheapest fixed term tariff offered will win the business.
Following SSE’s £10.5m fine for mis-selling, Energy Minister Michael Fallon said: “With rising energy prices, and multiple tariffs to contend with, consumers deserve the clearest, fairest and best possible deal.”
Collective switching is seen as an easier alternative to the perceived hassle of switching independently.
Any bill payer can register but must do so by midnight on Monday in order to benefit from potential annual savings of £60 to £200 seen in other schemes.
Energy Secretary and MP for Kingston and Surbiton, Edward Davey, sees collective switching as a way to ensure people are not over paying on their energy bills.
Of the 21 London councils involved, six are based in the South West including Mr Davey’s Royal Kingston borough.

Mr Davey believes this starts a conversation about energy, which he views as a good thing.
