The 2M group have produced noise contour maps showing the extent of the noise disturbance.
A number of South West London boroughs have expressed concern about noise disturbance if plans for a third and fourth runway at Heathrow Airport go ahead.
Wandsworth Council and its 2M Group campaign partners have produced ‘noise contour maps’, which show that many wards across the borough could be disrupted by aircraft coming in to land on a new runway.
The west of the borough would be worst hit, as planes get progressively lower as they reach the airport.
“Almost every part of Wandsworth would be affect by aircraft noise if Heathrow expands to a four runway hub,” said Ravi Govindia, Leader of Wandsworth Council.
“Across London and the Home Counties a total of three million people would be living under its flightpaths. The price is far too high.
“Heathrow is in the worst position in the country for a major airport and the Government should focus the search for new runway sites on viable settings where the impacts are less severe.”
Wandsworth is a founder member of the 2M group, an all-party alliance of more than 20 local authorities which are concerned at the environmental impact of Heathrow expansion.
The maps show that Hyde Park, Regents Park, St James Park and Kensington Gardens would all be affected by the arrival flightpath for runway 3, while Clapham Common, Wandsworth Common, Tooting Common and Richmond Park would suffer from the arrival route for runway 4.
