The Duchess of Cornwall turned Simon Cowell as she reviewed the latest talent on The BRIT School’s production line last Wednesday.

The students, following in the footsteps of world famous stars such as Adele and the late Amy Winehouse, performed their various arts including music, drama and animation for the Duchess.

Those studying animation and costume design also wowed the Duchess, who managed to catch a preview of the school’s upcoming musical Pippin.

“This has been an exciting day for the school as we have welcomed her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall, to our school,” said Stuart Worden, the school principal.

“It gave a real sense of her passion for the arts and her passion for young people which we share.”

The Croydon school, which can also boast to have Jessie J, Leona Lewis and Rizzle Kicks in their alumni, is funded by the British government with the support of the British Record Industry Trust.

Briony Scarlett, a dance student, escorted the Duchess around the school.

She said: “For her to be genuinely interested in us and all the things that we have done, and the commitment and the hard work we put in is absolutely amazing.”

Drama student Turrell Morris, who is playing the lead role in Pippin, unveiled a commemorative plaque with the Duchess for the school to mark their special royal visit.
