Crystal Palace suffered another blow in their chase for automatic promotion after yesterday’s 1-0 defeat at Blackpool.

Manager Ian Holloway blasted the state of the pitch on his first return to the club that he guided to the Premiership.

He said: “Not in a million years was the pitch as bad as that when I was here. There’s no excuses, it’s the same for both teams, but it doesn’t help does it?”

This was the South London side’s third defeat in a row, and leaves them six points adrift of the automatic promotion places.

It comes after Holloway was heckled by a disgruntled fan following Good Friday’s 4-0 home defeat to Birmingham, their first defeat at Selhurst Park since August.

He was conducting a post-match press conference when an unidentified man burst in shouting: “Holloway, you’re useless mate!”

But Holloway, famed for his witty and wacky quotes in interviews, shrugged it off in his usual style before insisting he won’t let it upset him or the team.

He said: “I think that was my brother! Thanks for that pal. There you go. Thanks very much, that’s excellent!

“He can say what he likes. I know what I’ve achieved and what I will achieve here eventually.

“We’ve got to believe when no-one else does. Obviously that fella has lost his belief, either in me or his team but I certainly won’t.”

He also said a fan in the ground shouted at him to ‘earn his money’.

The 50-year-old will hope his side get back to winning ways on Saturday when they host relegation threatened Barnsley.
