Proposals to extend the CDZ from Wimbledon and Mitcham to the rest of the borough were adopted by the full council late last year.
A borough-wide Controlled Drinking Zone is one step closer after a formal consultation on the plans was launched today.
Proposals to extend the CDZ from Wimbledon and Mitcham to the rest of the borough were adopted by the full council late last year, following the unanimous recommendation of the Council’s Licensing Committee.
Councillor David Simpson, Conservative spokesman for Crime Prevention, said that residents now have the chance to clamp down on drunken disorder throughout the borough.
“The Labour Council has been unwilling to listen to residents who have problems with street drinking in areas such as south Wimbledon, Colliers Wood and Morden.”
Concillor Henry Nelless, Abbey ward councillor encouraged residents to come forward.
“Drunken disorder and anti-social behaviour causes real misery for local communities and we must crack down on it wherever it occurs. As local councillors, we hear regularly from residents in south Wimbledon concerned about street drinking and I would encourage as many people as possible to respond to this consultation,” she said.
