Officers across South West London are playing a major part in the day of action.
There will be no escape for criminals across South West London today as police take part in a major operation.
Operation Big Wing is a day of visible coordinated activity which aims to cut crime and show residents that the Metropolitan Police have listened to their concerns.
As of 11:00am, 130 people had been arrested across London for a variety of offences.
In Merton, one man wanted for three years for absconding prison and dangerous driving was arrested after being found hiding in his girlfriend’s loft.
Suspected stolen mobile phones, oyster cards, drugs and drug paraphernalia were among items seized by Croydon police this morning.
Police will also be present at a number of venues to give advice to residents. One street briefing will take place at Vauxhall train station at 8pm this evening, where PCSOs will be on hand to inform the public what is being done to tackle crime and disorder.
Specialist colleagues joining forces with police include the Dog Support Unit, Mounted Branch, Territorial Support Group, Traffic Unit and the Air Support Unit.
Met Commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, said: “Today should send a clear message – if you’re a criminal all of the Met’s officers and staff are working to catch you.
“The Met has an array of specialist experts as well as professional local officers who work daily to keep Londoners safe.
“This Big Wing operation brings them visibly together and the public should see them working to cut crime.”
