Do you know a young person who deserves to be rewarded? Nominate them for a Young Person of the Year award.
Outstanding young people in Wandsworth are to be recognised at an annual awards ceremony this spring.
People are encouraged to nominate young people who they believe should be recognised for their achievement, courage, generous attitude or ability to overcome difficult circumstances.
Anyone under 19 years old and who lives or studies in Wandsworth is eligible to be norminated by their school, youth club or individual in the community.
One of last year’s winners spoke of his pride at being recognised with an award.
“I’m just an ordinary boy from the estate,” said Ryan McFarlane, who won the Rotary Award Contribution to the Community.
“There’s not a lot to do on the estate nowadays so I like to give young children the chance to have something to do in their life. I feel happy – I’m proud of myself. I’ll remember this for the rest of my life.”
Individuals can receive up to £500, with one overall winner chosen as the ‘Wandsworth Young Person of the Year’.
Sharnough Dauley-Hall was thrilled to be given this honour in 2012.
“When my name got read out, I was really excited. I’ll never forget this – it’s one of those moments you will tell your grandchildren about. The evening was amazing,” she said.
Other prizes include a group award for young people who have carried out voluntary work, and grant funding to help a young person or group build on an existing achievement.
Forms are available online, in schools, youth clubs, libraries and leisure centres.
Prizes will be presented by the Mayor of Wandsworth during a special dinner at the Civic Suite.
