The incident caused serious delays to traffic during this morning’s rush hour
A motorcyclist is in a critical condition following a serious collision with a van in Wimbledon in the early hours of this morning.
The man, whose details have not been released, was taken to St George’s Hospital with suspected injuries to his ribs and spleen.
The emergency services were alerted to the incident, on Haydon’s Road, at 4.20am this morning.
It is understood that the long-wheel Mercedes van was pulling out from a parking space when he struck the motorcyclist.
The van stopped at the scene and the incident will be investigated by the Metropolitan Traffic Unit. No arrests have been made.
The incident had a major effect on rush hour traffic as Merton High Street and Queen Road were shut for over five hours, with many buses having to be rerouted.
