The ‘h&f Report it’ app allows residents to take photos of any problem on public land using their smartphone.
A free app encouraging people to report on litter, fly-tipping and graffiti was launched by Hammersmith and Fulham Council this week.
The ‘h&f Report it’ app allows residents to take photos of any problem on public land and provide a short description of the issue using their smartphone.
GPS signals allow the report to be sent straight to the council’s street cleaners so they can determine the problem’s exact location.
It can be used to report on issues in streets and parks including graffiti, pot holes and litter, though it cannot be used on private property.
Cllr Greg Smith, deputy leader of H&F Council cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “It is amazing what you can do on a mobile phone nowadays, so next time you are looking to download a game, a ringtone or an app, then just look up h&f Report it and try it out.
“Independent research shows that our streets are among the cleanest in the capital, and the cleanest they have ever been, with 98 per cent of streets complying with Keep Britain Tidy cleanliness standards. But we want to go further by getting residents to help us make them the cleanest streets in London.”
A short trial period saw areas being cleaned up within 24 hours of the report coming through.
Rosemary Petit, The Hammersmith Society’s Chairman, said: “If a smartphone app helps keep the streets of Hammersmith and Fulham cleaner then it is to be welcomed.”
The app is easy to use and H&F Council are running a series of information events, in order to show residents how to use the app.
These will be at Hammersmith Town Hall reception from 9am-2.30pm on Tuesday December 4 and at Lyric Square, Hammersmith, from 10am-4pm on Thursday December 6.
An event at Fulham Broadway Shopping Centre will take place on Monday December 10 from 10am-4pm.
