THE Jigsaw Trust in Cranleigh is revelling in a cash reward after the general public voted them as one of the most worthy causes across Surrey.
Based on Dunsfold Park, the Jigsaw Trust is able to help further improve the lives of children and adults affected by autism thanks to the Lloyds Banking Group Community Fund.
They will receive £5,000 to pay for outdoor equipment specifically designed to encourage the development of key skills after polling enough of a public vote organised by Lloyds.
Those with autism often have an impaired ability to interact socially with others and these individual pieces of equipment will encourage interaction between pupils while developing key skills.
Established in 1999 by a group of parents with children diagnosed with autism, the Jigsaw Trust has now set up the Jigsaw School that currently educates 49 pupils of ages ranging from four to 19 years old.
And fundraising officer Steven Morgan said winning the competition was a huge boost for all involved.
“We are so pleased to have won the prize,” he said. “The other charities nominated are all doing fantastic work so to be chosen is a real honour.
“We have wanted to buy this outdoor equipment for the school for a long time and this money now gives us the chance to go out and do that.
“The trust has been around for 13 years and this equipment will be a massive boost for us, it gets the children outside to improve their fitness and forces them to work together.
“Thank you to everyone that voted for us and hopefully the increased publicity will raise awareness still further.”
