Beer lovers are in for a treat as the Wandsworth Common Halloween Beer Festival returns for its fifth year next week.

The festival, running over three days from 25-27 October, with a premiere night on Wednesday 24, normally attracts over 2,500 visitors and offers over 100 different types of beer.

Featured breweries include Ballards, Dark Star, Brew Dog, Sarah Hughes and main sponsors, Shepherd Neam.

And the festival organisers and hosts from Le Gothique Restaurant and Bar have also brewed a beer specifically for the event: Gothic 666.

Mark Justin, creator of Gothic 666, said he was looking forward to tasting the 6% Gothic Ale.

Elliot Baker, Manager of Le Gothique, said: “It’s going to be fantastic, there are 15-20 beers downstairs in the cellar already and we can’t wait for the rest to arrive.”

Talking about the types of beers, Mr Baker said they would be mostly of the darker kind to reflect the Halloween theme.

He added: “It is pretty impressive. There are some absolute excellent beers.”

There will also be 25 ciders and 20 wines by the glass at the festival.

Asked about the number of women attending the festival, Mr Justin said: “Other beer festivals are very male orientated. But the Wandsworth Common Festival, especially on the Saturday session, has a 30% female audience.”

He also said that the crowd is generally much younger than other festivals such as those held by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

There will be live music from John Crampton on Friday and from The Jo Burt Experience on Saturday.
