A fundraising event in honour of hate crime victim Jody Dobrowski will be held in Clapham this Sunday.
Mr. Dobrowski, 24, was brutally attacked and murdered on October 14 2005 by two men who believed him to be gay.
Charity 17-24-30 will run the event in partnership with the Two Brewers pub on Clapham High Street, the Metropolitan Police and other organisations in Clapham.
The first £1000 raised will pay for a memorial bench which will be placed in Clapham Common.
Chair of 17-24-30, Mark Healey, said: “Victims of hate crime should never stand alone”.
As part of the 2012 Olympics, Mr Healey was selected to be one of 8,000 inspiring Olympic Torchbearers.
“I carried the Olympic Torch for those who should have been with us today, those who had their lives cut short through acts of hate,” he said.
The event will be held a week before the launch of 17-24-30’s first Hate Crime Awareness Week, which will take place from 13 -19 October.
The campaign aims to encourage people to help tackle hate crime by organising events with the help of local authorities.
The fundraising event for Mr Dobrowski will take place in the evening at the Two Brewers pub on Clapham High Street.
