Apple rarely accept awards in person but the company had a change of heart after an invite from the Design & Art Direction Awards at Battersea Park this week.

Design & Art Direction, a UK based charity celebrating their 50th anniversary, awarded Apple with best brand and best design studio.

Jony Ive, Apple’s chief of design, rarely makes public appearances, but was there in person to accept the coveted award.

Apple not only sent Mr Ive but flew out the entire 16 strong team, made up of 14 men and 2 women, from the company’s headquarters in San Francisco.

An Apple spokesman said it is the company’s policy not to single out individual success.

Given today’s iPhone 5 release, it was fitting for the company to accept an award in the same week.
