Now in its eighth year, ‘Feed Wandsworth’ will have a BBQ, bouncy castle, face painting and Christian music.
Wandsworth’s churches are swapping sermons for burgers at All Saints Church today.
Now in its eighth year, the free community day called ‘Feed Wandsworth’ will have a BBQ, bouncy castle, face painting and Christian music from 12-3pm.
Rosie Pike, one of the event organisers said: “We really want to show people that the churches are there and they work together.
“Because it’s now in its eighth year, people expect it and welcome them.”
This is the first time the event has been held on a Saturday as it was initially postponed due to the Olympics.
Diane Dickson, a member of the Salvation Army, said: “It’s about bringing the community together. People come along, share stories and then that opens the door for them to come to church.
“It’s not ‘here’s your burger but you can only have one if you convert’ but rather that it has been stimulated by the Olympics and it’s about re-engaging with families and encouraging them to have fun together.”
It is hoped the event will attract people of all ages, backgrounds and religions.
