South West Londoners can enjoy highlights such as Britain’s biggest beer festival.
British Food Fortnight will this year run alongside the Olympics with activities taking place across London, from 27 July to 12 August.
What better time to showcase British food when the eyes of the world are upon us; Londoners can enjoy highlights such as Britain’s biggest beer festival and Made in Britain food markets.
Alexia Robinson, organiser of the event, said: “The Olympic organisers have made it nigh impossible for shops, restaurants or even schools to capitalise on the Games.
“Love British Food is, quite simply, the best opportunity for businesses and community organisations to ride the wave of Olympic patriotism without incurring the wrath of the Olympic brand police.
“So come on Britain, fly the Union Jack on your plates as well as on your bunting!”
What epitomises British culture more than beer? As a result, Olympia have organised the biggest beer festival from 7 August to 12 August, bringing together 800 different real ales, ciders and foreign beers for the expected 50,000 crowd to try. There will also be a variety of different foods from around the world and music to enjoy.
Additionally, South London Pub group, Renaissance, is honouring Love British Food with an old-school bar menu to show-off the best our fair isles has to offer.
From 27 July to 12 August, England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland will battle for the best taste in Britain.
Londoners can cast their judgement at The Avalon, Abbeville and Stonhouse in Clapham and the Bolingbroke in Battersea.
Kingston will be putting on a food festival, including the Big Kingston Market weekend where over 50 local producers and growers will be showcasing their produce; enjoy free entry from 11 Aug to 12 Aug.
Other events include Children’s Food Week where kids can experiment with cooking and the Kingston Food Trail to try out the restaurants Kingston town centre has to offer.
In the same spirit, Covent Garden will hosting a Real Food Market from 2 August to 9 August, boasting the very best produce for foodies and aspiring Masterchefs. Located on the East Piazza 11am – 7pm.
You can see the support for Britain all over London; Great Ormond Street Hospital will be decorated in red, white and blue, along with Enterprise Inns. Furthermore, Tesco and SPAR (UK) are gearing up to paint shop-shelves the same colours of the Union Jack.
If you want to take part in all the fun from the comfort of your own home, you can show your patriotism by buying promotional packs from the Love British Food website; they cost £10 and include balloons, bunting and posters.
And if you weren’t feeling British enough, E-Foods are offering one lucky winner the chance to win a traditional English tea party, with £500 worth of goodies including fresh cream scones and cakes.
