Britain’s carnival summer is set to continue in Fulham as residents prepare for the ninth annual Celebrating Fulham festival.
The area will host a series of family-orientated activities, from live music to swap shops, between Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 8, which will tie in with the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Families will enjoy the ‘Fair on the Green’ on Saturday July 7, when a fun fair, food court, bouncy castles, carousels and stalls will be laid out.
“This is a truly monumental summer for London,” said Cllr Frances Stainton, Deputy Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham.
“Celebrating Fulham will certainly add to the carnival atmosphere created by the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the forthcoming Olympics.”
One of the highlights will be ‘Elizabeth to Elizabeth’, a one-off show on July 3 at the Great Hall, Fulham Palace.
The concert trio In Voice and Verse, made up of actor Lance Pierson, soprano Belinda Yates and pianist Heather Chamberlain, will present poetry and classical music in tribute to British monarchs through the ages.
The week will culminate on the final Sunday with the Paggliaccio Cup, a free football tournament for youngsters between five and 16, and the evening Bat Walk around the gardens of Fulham Palace.
The walk is led by John Tovey of the London Bat Group and attendance is free, although donations can be made to the group.
“Celebrating Fulham has become one of the highlights of the year and offers a huge variety of attractions for people of all ages throughout the week,” Cllr Stainton said.
“The aim of the week is not only to give residents, families and visitors a great experience, but to promote Fulham and boost business trade.”
