Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without a good pantomime (oh no it wouldn’t!) and in this respect Wimbledon will not be disappointed.
Dick Whittington, starring Dame Edna Everage, Sam Attwater and Anna Williamson, opens at the New Wimbledon Theatre on December 9.
Dick, played by Dancing on Ice Champion Sam Attwater, searches for streets of gold with his feline companion trying to win the hand of Alice, Toonattic presenter Anna Williamson.
In anticipation of the show Sam and Anna turned on Wimbledon’s Christmas lights last week.
Both are incredibly excited to be working with ‘The Dame’.
“She’s a true gentleman,” said Sam.
“Dame’s got an amazing entrance. Of all the pantos I’ve seen and done I’ve never seen an entrance like it.”
Although they kept the details of the show closely guarded they have promised singing, dancing, flying and even a few tricks.
Anna, a veteran panto actress, says she doesn’t even mind only getting one day off for Christmas because the cast become like family over the holidays.
She also spoke of Wimbledon: “I’m from London but actually Wimbledon is a new one for me and I’m really, really excited to be here.”
Will Dick be able to defeat King Rat and win the hand of Alice? The only way to find out is to come and see the show, which promises to be fun for all the family.
Billed as a classic tale of rags to riches with all the panto trimmings you would expect it is sure to entertain audiences right into the new year.
Dick Whittington will run at New Wimbledon Theatre from December 9 to January 15.
