Transport for London revealed where the top 10 most cyclist injuries and deaths occur in London.
Cyclists using the Merton to City Cycle Superhighway are tackling some of London’s most dangerous junctions.
Transport for London revealed where the top 10 most cyclist injuries and deaths occur in London to Lambeth and Southwark’s Greater London Authority member, Valerie Shawcross (Lab).
Four of the most notorious junctions are on the Merton to City CS7 highway although the recent deaths have not occurred along this route.
The CS7 Elephant and Castle area features twice in the top 10.
Merton and Wandsworth GLA member, Richard Tracey, said: “I have heard no complaints about the CS7 from Merton to the City, although I have encountered some criticisms from pedestrians about the Wandsworth to Westminster route.”
He admitted he thought it took courage to ride London’s streets.
The Superhighways have come under fire in the last few weeks because of three cyclist deaths in six weeks.
Last year 10 cyclists died on London’s roads but there have been 15 this year.
Cyclist Charlie Twallin, 23, said:”I don’t use the CS7 or any of the highways – they’re rubbish. Not really cycle lanes.”
At the Mayor of London’s Question time last week Boris Johnson said: “I accept that we need to do more to make cycling safer in London.
“And of course we are going to continue to improve safety if we possibly can across the city – that doesn’t actually mean that it’s not improving.”
After mounting pressure from Assembly members TfL agreed on Thursday to report back within a week on various issues regarding the superhighways safety.
