The Untold British Civil Rights Movement, Polka Theatre

On the eve of Black History Month, Tony Warner, director of 100 Black Men of London, returns to the Polka Theatre to celebrate 400 years of Black British Civil Rights Heroes with an interactive presentation. The event follows the 6pm performance of ‘I Have a Dream…’

Wimbledon Bookfest, Wimbledon

Eight days of events celebrating literature at various locations in Wimbledon. Alistair Darling discusses his new book, Back from the Brink: 1000 Days at No.10, with Channel 4’s economics editor Faisal Islam (October 5 at The Big Tent on Wimbledon Common, 7.30pm, £15) and the Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy reads from her new collection ‘The Bees’ (October 6, The Big Tent on Wimbledon Common, 7.30pm, £10).

Apple Day, Morden Hall Park, Morden

Ever wanted to know more about apples? No? Well come and discover the culinary history of the Great British Apple anyway with apple displays, apple tasting and apple printing in an event organised by the National Trust. The Riverside Cafe will be serving a suitably apple-themed menu including apple pies, scones, flapjacks and muffins as well as apple and parsnip soup.

‘The Grand Bazaar’ exhibition, The Bowman Gallery

Artist Lesley Bower presents her collection of paintings and sketches. The Grand Bazaar is the fruit of Bower’s many trips to Turkey as well as the colourful world of Brixton Market and other bustling corners of London.
