SW11 Literary Festival 2011

The theme for this year’s festival is Monsters. Over the next three weeks there is a variety of activities but highlights for this week include author Isabel Losada taking her seat in Waterstone’s window for a week, as she writes and answers resident’s questions.Poet Aoifie Mannix and novelists Fiona Mountain and Emma Craigie all take part in this weeks activities.

Foodies Family Day, Battersea High Street

Trees for Cities’ Tree-Athlon, Battersea Park
Saturday 17th September, 9.30am
Trees for Cities’ Tree-Athlon is a 5k sponsored fun run, which raises money to plant trees in cities. On the day there is also the opportunity to take part in the world’s largest barefoot 100m race. As a reward for running the race, you can take home your very own sapling to plant wherever you like.
If running’s not your thing there is live music and dance ongoing throughout the days program.
Foodival Festival, Tooting Market
Saturday 17th September
This weekend homegrown dishes will be served up in Tooting by local restaurateurs and there will be a Caribbean barbeque on the go for visiters to sample. There are special prizes on offer if you bring your own bowl and spoon. Highlights of the day include: a bring your best salad dressing competition, a huge Tooting salad bowl, stalls, music, arts and lots of foodie fun.

Chilean playwright Juan Radrigán’s production is based on a the true story of three Andean sisters whose bodies were found in 1974 tied together and hung from a rock where they had spent their lives farming. This is the last week you can catch the production so hurry on up and get your tickets!
