AFC Wimbledon fans will be going an extra mile – or seven – in a sponsored walk to raise money for their club on Saturday.
Money raised from the event will go towards the continuing effort to clear the debt on The Cherry Red Records Fans’ Stadium.
Injured Dons players Alan Inns, Lewis Taylor and Ross Montague will take part in the event alongside Club President Dickie Guy, Merton Mayor Nick Draper and club mascot Haydon the Womble.
“It’s a family event, there’s no age or financial restrictions so it’s an event everyone can take part in” said organiser Siobahn Darlington.
“We want to let the people of Wimbledon know that there’s a club that bears their name and we want to get as many followers as possible.”
In a bid to build links with the community, participants will have the chance to donate a quarter of their sponsorship money to local charities Merton Mind or Greenfell Housing.
Fans are being encouraged to come in fancy dress or simply don the club’s colours.
The walk will begin from Plough Lane at 10.30am and end at Kingsmeadow.
